New flight opens gateway to Swedish nature

Nature lovers in Denmark will soon be just an hour away from the heart of Swedish wilderness. Starting April 28, the newly established airline Sola Air will offer direct flights between Copenhagen Airport (Københavns Lufthavn) and Karlstad, a small Swedish town located on the northern shore of Vänern, Sweden’s largest lake.

The announcement was made by the regional tourism board Visit Värmland, which described the new connection as a unique opportunity to experience the serenity and beauty of Värmland’s deep forests and sparkling lakes without the long road journey. Currently, the trip by car from Copenhagen to Karlstad takes approximately seven hours.

The direct flight, by contrast, will take just under 60 minutes, significantly enhancing accessibility for Danish tourists and nature enthusiasts.

“We hope this route will attract more visitors from Denmark who are looking for genuine outdoor experiences,” said Visit Värmland in a press release.

Värmland: a growing destination for eco-tourism

The region of Värmland is increasingly positioning itself as a hub for eco-tourism and slow travel, offering activities such as canoeing, hiking, wildlife watching, and forest retreats. Karlstad, the regional capital, combines traditional Swedish charm with easy access to pristine natural landscapes, making it an ideal gateway for travelers.

For Copenhageners seeking a break from city life, the new flight offers a fast and convenient escape into a region known for its tranquil beauty and sustainable tourism initiatives.

Sola Air: a new player in Nordic aviation

Sola Air is a new airline on the Nordic market aiming to connect smaller Scandinavian cities through efficient short-haul flights. The Copenhagen-Karlstad route is one of its first ventures, and early reactions suggest it could become a popular link for both leisure and business travel.

With the rise of regional tourism and increased demand for accessible nature escapes, the new route has the potential to strengthen cross-border ties and promote sustainable travel across the Nordic countries.
