Denmark has established itself as Europe’s frontrunner in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among businesses. According to the report Denmark’s Digital Development 2025 (Danmarks Digitale Udvikling 2025), 28% of Danish companies used AI in 2024, nearly doubling the 2023 figure. This positions Denmark far ahead of the European average, which stands at 14%.
“We can be extremely proud to be ranked No. 1 in Europe and that the number of companies using artificial intelligence has nearly doubled in just one year. We must strengthen our competitiveness.” says Minister of Digitalization Caroline Stage.
Large enterprises driving AI adoption
Larger companies, particularly those with over 250 employees, have been the fastest to integrate AI technologies into their operations. However, even among smaller businesses (10-49 employees), one in four has already implemented AI solutions. This marks a significant increase compared to 2023, when only 12% of small enterprises used AI.
“Digitalization is an obvious path toward this goal, and artificial intelligence undoubtedly has enormous potential if used wisely and responsibly. That is why, as Minister of Digitalization, I am, of course, pleased that artificial intelligence is being implemented on a large scale in both large and small Danish companies,” says Minister of Digitalization Caroline Stage.
The role of AI in Denmark’s digital strategy
Denmark’s leadership in AI adoption aligns with its broader digital strategy. The Danish government has consistently promoted digital transformation through initiatives aimed at strengthening AI skills, fostering innovation, and supporting businesses in leveraging new technologies. The Digital Growth Strategy 2025 (Danmarks Digitale Udvikling 2025) aims to further boost AI adoption and ensure Denmark remains at the forefront of digital innovation in Europe.
AI reshaping Danish industries
Industries such as information and communication, finance, and professional services are leading in AI usage. These sectors have rapidly incorporated AI-driven solutions for automation, data analysis, and customer service improvements, enhancing efficiency and competitiveness.
Setting a benchmark for Europe
Denmark’s success in AI adoption serves as a model for other European countries. The combination of government support, business incentives, and a skilled workforce has enabled a rapid transition toward AI-driven solutions. As AI continues to evolve, Denmark is well-positioned to maintain its leadership in digital transformation and technological innovation across Europe.
