On May 3rd, Copenhagen Airport (Københavns Lufthavn) will host an unprecedented fitness event called “Lufthavnsløbet“—a unique opportunity for children and adults to run directly on an airport runway, usually reserved exclusively for aircraft.
This special event marks the airport’s 100th anniversary, opening up one of its runways for the first time ever to the public for a 2.9-kilometer fitness run. The event is specifically designed for local children aged between 9 and 15 from the island of Amager, who are welcome to participate alongside an accompanying adult.

Historic celebration at Copenhagen Airport
“Lufthavnsløbet” is more than just a race; it represents a historic moment for Copenhagen Airport, as this is the first instance of civilian access to the airport’s operational runway. The event aims to encourage physical activity, community participation, and provide a memorable experience in celebration of the airport’s centennial.
Participants will enjoy the rare opportunity of running in the same area where planes regularly take off and land, making it an exciting and unusual experience for all involved.
