Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup is taking proactive steps to address noise pollution in the surrounding areas. In a bid to meet stringent environmental standards and improve community relations, the airport is calling on nearby residents to help identify the best locations for new noise monitoring devices.
Community call to action
The airport has reached out to locals through the Facebook group “Kære Nabo til Københavns Lufthavn” (Dear Neighbor to Copenhagen Airport). Through this platform, the management is seeking residents willing to place noise monitors in their backyards. This collaborative approach is designed to gather real-time data on the impact of aircraft noise on the neighborhood.
As part of the initiative, two noise monitors will be installed to evaluate noise levels, especially during aircraft take-offs. A primary focus of the project is to assess whether altering the take-off position on runway 22R—flights currently departing over Kongelunden—can effectively reduce noise pollution.

Environmental and Community Impact
By involving the community directly, Copenhagen Airport hopes to gain invaluable insights into the real-world effects of its operations. This initiative not only seeks technical solutions to reduce noise but also fosters a spirit of cooperation between the airport and its neighbors. The project is an important step toward reconciling operational demands with the environmental and social expectations of the local community.
The noise reduction project is part of a broader commitment by Copenhagen Airport to enhance sustainability and reduce its environmental footprint. With the support of local residents, the airport aims to serve as a model for similar initiatives worldwide. This cooperative approach highlights the shared responsibility of both the airport and the community in creating a quieter, more livable environment.
