“tjæpt”: a new supermarket concept in Copenhagen

Salling Group is set to redefine quick and convenient shopping with the launch of its innovative new supermarket concept, tjæpt, scheduled to open in April on Blegdamsvej in Copenhagen. This fresh retail format replaces the former Netto Express store and promises to deliver a streamlined, inspiring shopping experience for busy customers.

“Customers want fast and easy meals and a quick shopping experience – we will embrace and offer this in a new, better, and inspiring way. We look forward to creating a fresh store concept, keeping the familiar pink tones customers enjoy.” — Braw Bakir, Director in Salling Group

A concept designed for speed and simplicity

Responding to increasing consumer demand for fast and easy meals, tjæpt has been carefully reimagined to make everyday shopping simpler and more efficient. The new concept retains the distinctive pink color scheme while undergoing a significant upgrade in both product range and store layout. According to Salling Group, the store will feature:

  • A curated selection of convenience meals, including ready-to-eat dishes and meals that can be quickly heated at home
  • Freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, and tapas assortments
  • A wide array of special beers, ready meals from Løgismose, and meal kits from Skagen Food
  • A dedicated section for freshly brewed coffee and a bake-off offering morning rolls and croissants
  • Two staffed checkouts alongside self-checkout options for those wishing to bypass queues

This refined assortment is designed to help customers complete their shopping quickly—whether grabbing a snack before a stroll in Fælledparken or stocking up on essentials for the day.

Transitioning from Express to tjæpt

After nearly a year of operating as Express on Blegdamsvej, the concept is now undergoing a transformation. The final day for Express is set for February 22, after which renovations will commence. The upgraded store is expected to welcome customers on April 3, marking a significant step forward in Salling Group’s efforts to meet evolving customer needs.

“We have refined the Express model, keeping what worked best and simplifying product choices to make shopping faster. Instead of removing key items, we’ve streamlined options while expanding our selection of convenience meals.” — Braw Bakir, EVP in Salling Group

As Salling Group explains, the new approach focuses on simplifying choices. The range of grocery items has been significantly reduced—not by eliminating key products like rye bread or detergent, but by narrowing the options within these categories—to ensure faster decision-making. Simultaneously, the variety of convenience meals has been increased to cater to the on-the-go lifestyle of modern shoppers.

A strategic location in Østerbro

Situated in the heart of Østerbro near Trianglen, tjæpt is perfectly positioned to serve local residents and visitors alike. Its strategic location is expected to attract shoppers seeking a quick stop for snacks, beverages, or a full grocery run—especially those planning activities in nearby parks or during a busy day in the city.

With its blend of efficiency, quality, and convenience, tjæpt represents Salling Group’s commitment to innovation in the competitive supermarket sector. As the new concept prepares to open its doors, both local and international observers will be watching closely to see how this fresh retail model transforms the everyday shopping experience in Copenhagen.
