The Nordic defence alliance has entered a transformative phase with the implementation of Vision 2030, marking a significant step in European and regional military cooperation. Since its signing in April last year, the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) has been advancing its strategic objectives, focusing on operational readiness and joint military capabilities.
Strengthening NATO’s defence and deterrence
The Defence Ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden have reaffirmed their commitment to fortifying NATO’s deterrence and defence mechanisms. Central to this collaboration is the ability to conduct joint military operations, ensuring an effective response to both present and future security challenges.
As full NATO members, the Nordic countries stand ready to support each other and their allies, pledging to defend every inch of NATO territory. The Defence Ministers also highlighted their dedication to reinforcing military coordination through Joint Force Command Norfolk, a key component of NATO’s regional defence strategy.

Responding to geopolitical uncertainty
Against the backdrop of increasing global instability and Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, Nordic leaders have underscored the necessity of a strong and united Europe. The ministers expressed their unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that they will stand with its people “for as long as it takes.”
With regional and global security facing long-term threats, Nordic Defence Cooperation has reached an unprecedented level of cohesion. Vision 2030 is not just an ambition but a roadmap actively shaping the region’s military landscape, ensuring stability and resilience in an era of heightened uncertainty.
