Starting February 1, a Danish communications expert will take on the role of Director-General for Communication and Information at the Council of the European Union. The Council has announced that Preben Aamann will step into this important position, as stated in an official press release.

Who is Preben Aamann?
Preben Aamann is currently in charge of the Council’s press office. He has significant experience in communications, having worked as a spokesperson for two former Presidents of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy and Donald Tusk. Before that, he represented Denmark’s EU embassy in Brussels as a spokesperson and served as a strategic planner for the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Aamann began his career at Denmark’s Ministry of Research but soon moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He studied political science at Aarhus University in Denmark and at the University of Florida in the United States, where he focused on American politics.
Why is This Role Important?
In his new role, Aamann will be responsible for explaining the work of the European Council and the Council of the European Union to the public. He will also oversee media relations, ensure transparency, and help people access official EU documents.
