Victim and police response
The injured individual was airlifted to the hospital via ambulance helicopter and remains in serious condition. Despite their injuries, the person was able to provide a statement to the police.
Law enforcement quickly secured the scene and initiated an investigation. A preliminary case of attempted murder has been opened. Officers, including a K9 unit and a helicopter team, were deployed to the area.
The suspect fled the scene on foot following the attack. However, shortly before 4:00 PM, police spokesperson Nadya Norton confirmed that a person had been arrested in connection with the investigation.
While specific details regarding the suspect remain undisclosed, authorities initially indicated they were searching for an adult. The attack reportedly occurred outdoors on school premises and involved the use of a knife.
Impact on the School Community
Runby School serves approximately 1,000 students, from preschool to Grade 9. Following the incident, the school promptly gathered all students in secure areas, and nearby schools also implemented safety protocols.
The event has left the school community shaken. SVT’s on-site reporter described scenes of distressed parents and students congregating outside the school, supported by the municipality’s crisis response team.
Axel Homann, a student at Runby School, shared his experience:
“I was out buying lunch with some friends when we saw several police and ambulance vehicles on the school grounds. We ran back and learned from classmates that a teacher had been stabbed. I thought, ‘This is crazy,’ and wondered, ‘Why would someone do this?’ The incident has deeply impacted students and parents alike, with one student describing it as “a big shock.”
