Copenhagen wants people to use metro

Copenhagen Metro

Copenhagen Municipality has taken a significant step to address the underutilization of its Cityringen metro line (or M3) by allocating 2.1 million DKK for a detailed study. The initiative is aimed at identifying ways to attract more passengers and optimize the use of the extensive investment in the metro infrastructure.

Despite its advanced design and promise of seamless urban connectivity, the Cityring has struggled to meet projected passenger numbers for 2024. This shortfall has prompted city leaders to take action, ensuring the metro delivers on its potential as a cornerstone of Copenhagen’s public transportation system.

We’ve poured substantial resources into the Cityring, and it’s essential that we encourage more Copenhageners to make it a part of their daily lives. There’s still ample capacity to be utilized, and we want to ensure it offers an excellent travel experience for everyone.

The study, expected to span two years, will explore innovative solutions to boost ridership. Potential areas of focus include marketing strategies, fare incentives, and improving accessibility to make the Cityring more appealing to a broader audience.
